:iconminniethanksplz: It was my first time and I was pretty excited, I hear them often here
and same for when I was in Ontario (for years always hoping to see them) so it was very happy
day for me :D  They are "very" big in comparison to a downy woodpecker !

Too many people are just letting such wonderful experiences just zip right on by. We live with a view of the Blue Ridge Mountains. We aren't from here, but have been in the area for about 10 years. I just cannot believe how many people I have talked to that just don't even seem to give a hoot about seeing them. There isn't a day that goes by that I don't open my blinds on that side (we live on a 4 lane highway so unfortunately that side usually is closed) an stare at those mountains, just soaking them in. Sad for those others really. Too busy looking at their iphones and ipads and whatnot. What I wouldn't have given to be there with you both! I love Canada anyway as well. Wish we could live there. Used to go to Bay of Fundy area, St. John, Prince Edward Island and whatnot every summer as a kid. Always hated going home to Maryland. At least I am not in that state anymore! Happy birding!

SO true and so sad that to many don't appreciate
the beauty that surrounds us
Yes enjoy those mountain views I would feel the same way
right now living in a busy town I only see back of houses
I do appreciate when the sky is full of color that I see from my back deck
but always have to catch at the right time because it usually last 5 to 10 minutes :)

So lucky to have experienced one of these beauties. My hubby saw one in our tree for the longest time one day. Of course I was a day I wasn't around. One day...What a treat!

Awww yes they had them where I lived in Ontario I would hear them all the time
but never got to see them or my Hubby also would see them when I wasn't there
and Finaly here one day in the trails I saw a lady I had met a couple of days prior and we had talked about photography, there she was standing very still with her :iconmaxtess: as I approached her she pointed out to it, I was like a child with candy  but I could not believe how many people just walked on by and never even looked at what we were so intensly photographing CRAZY :)

oooo gigi.. you got him!!! What an amazing shot! Isn't he beautiful!
We had one yesterday that landed on the tree that I see from my computer. Unfortunately, I also had my dog in the same room, so had to move veeery slowly so as not to make the dog jump and run outside. By the time I had her out the room, and my camera ready. he'd climbed up to where I couldn't see himanymore. When I went outside he'd flown away. :( But.. he's been here twice in 3 days, so we have hopes he'll be back. He left a big hole on the side of our tree. Must've been some goodies in there for im :D My camera is now at the ready next to me :lmao: Boy.. *staring again at this beautiful shot* gorgeous, just gorgeous! Now goes to see youtube video :)

Pretty birds, but we have them drilling holes into the eaves of my house! I'm not even sure what they're after. I have to keep the suet feeders full or they'll make my house into Swiss cheese! :D
